Honoring the Anniversary of the Olmstead Decision

This month, we recognize the anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in Olmstead v. L.C., which affirmed the right of people with disabilities to receive services in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs.

For more than two decades, the principles established in Olmstead have helped expand opportunities for individuals to live, work, and participate in their communities with the supports they choose.

Home and community-based services (HCBS) play a vital role in making that vision possible. Every day, caregivers, direct support professionals, families, advocates, and service providers help individuals maintain independence, exercise choice, and remain connected to the people and communities that matter most.

As we reflect on the legacy of Olmstead, we remain committed to supporting policies and programs that promote dignity, opportunity, and community inclusion for the individuals we serve.

Together, we continue the work of building communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
